There are 3 parts of an effective at-home learning plan:
reading, homework, and Lexia
reading, homework, and Lexia
Reading: This is the most important thing you can do for your child's learning. We recommend 15-20 minutes every day. This can include: your child listening to you or a sibling read a book, listening to a book on tape/digital book, using letter/word flash cards, reading the poems or small book copies we send home, or reading the books from "Ms. Ellis' borrowing library." We will be checking reading logs every day. |
Home Links:
In lieu of worksheets, we will be asking families to complete interactive activities that will reinforce the skills being learned in school. We might ask you to act out a story, build a tower, or take a walk outside! It should be a fun way to work with your child and get to know what they are learning. |
Lexia:
Every student at the Henderson has an account with Lexia that can be accessed from both home and school. This fantastic site monitors student progress and develops an individualized plan for each child's reading development. |

Please excuse us as we develop our site for first grade.
We will post helpful links and resources as soon as we can.
There are still lots of helpful resources, so have a look around!
Thank you for your patience!
